Former President Jimmy Carter is recovering Tuesday after undergoing surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.
The pressure on Carter’s brain stemmed from recent falls at his home that caused bleeding, according to a statement from the Carter Center. He was admitted Monday night to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, where the procedure was performed.
Carter, 95, the oldest living president, has previously battled brain and liver cancer.
“We are praying for him and we believe he is going to be OK,” Rev. Tony Lowden, Carter’s pastor at Maranatha Baptist, said in a statement Monday night. “He is one of the greatest persons I have ever known.”
