Comedian and actor Joe Torry lashed out Monday against allegations that he showed up in court last week in support of beleaguered entertainment legend Bill Cosby after receiving a hefty check in exchange.
Torry, who walked arm in arm with Cosby into the Pennsylvania courthouse on June 8 for Cosby’s sexual assault trial, maintains that he was not paid to be a supporter
“I never asked Bill for a check,” Torry said Monday on “The Tom Joyner Morning Show.” “Ain’t never got a check from Bill.”
Torry, a member of the same fraternity as Cosby, told Joyner, “I don’t know what you’re thinking about, that I’m doing this for profit. I know people want to hear, ‘Oh that’s why Joe Torry [was] there Thursday. There’s got to be a reason. There’s got to be a check.’ No, that’s my frat brother, that’s a black man that has done a lot for black America.”
