I am writing this letter in response to the story titled “Kayden Wilkins Wins with ‘Cambio’” by Ra-Jah S. Kelly. The article, which ran in the March 22 edition, told the story of fifth-grader Kayden Wilkins, who won the Washington Informer Charities Spelling Bee over a number of eighth-grade students. I am so excited to see young African-American males engaged in academics, and grateful to the Washington Informer giving them a platform to participate in competitive academic events. Congratulations to Kayden!

Make Every Vote Count
I am writing in response to “Election Protection Activates for 2018 Midterms” by Sarafina Wright, which ran in the March 22 edition. The article reported that national coalitions were gathering lawyers and volunteers to make sure eligible voters could vote. Many people fought to protect this right, and to this day it is being attacked by restrictive policies. I hope this serves as a reminder to everyday citizens to exercise their right to vote in the midterm.
